GameChat #5
Our editor is currently on vacation so there's bit of a hyper casual theme this week - the sort of thing you can pick up and play to fill some idle minutes.
Note: sorry the tweets aren’t rendering directly in the newsletter this week, Twitter broke them
GameChat aims to be the best e-mail you get all week, filled with new ways to have fun. In these early days we’re relying on word of mouth to build a subscriber base and would love it if you could hit share and let your friends know something you’ve found and enjoyed.
What We’re Playing
Kyo Games
Not a game so much as a platform, Kyo is keeping it simple and providing a fun way for gamers to dip a toe into web3. They’re running regular tournaments based on hyper casual games like Fruit Ninja, and now Red Panda Surfer. With over 3,500 players contesting this latest challenge, they seem to be onto something.
As you play, you earn points to upgrade your avatar and access further tournaments.
Our good friends the Ethlizards are strong supporters of the platform, which is built on top of Immutable, and we’re proud to represent them as they compete with other communities. Kyo encourages communities to bring as many players as possible to take part, and with the best 10 scores counting towards the overall community score, there is plenty of opportunity to make your mark.
Ethlizards are currently sitting in second place - can we help them get to #1? The Red Panda Surfer challenge ends on April 14th, so if you can jump on for a quick session, tell them you’re from Ethlizards and see if you can crack that top 10 score!
What We’re Looking Forward To
Starheroes
We took a spaceship for a test ride through the Starheroes battle arena and we’re excited about it becoming more populated. For now there are some set game windows to try and concentrate player times and make it easy to line up a match (and unlike pretty much everything else in crypto, there are no bots yet).

New Digital Assets
BattleFly
If you’re really interested in exploring a digital asset-centric game but don’t want to risk hundreds of dollars, BattleFly might be the entree you’ve been looking for. Think Robot Wars but for mechanical butterflies.
You can pick up a starter BattleFly on the Trove marketplace for around 9 $MAGIC (roughly 12 USD at time of writing) and then get to work. Of course, you’ll need some $MAGIC first (use any DEX like Uniswap), including at least 20 tokens to stake in the game for your entry fees. All in all it’s probably a $40-50 experiment to get started, and you can always sell your NFTs and tokens later if it’s not for you, although you are risking small amounts of real money/tokens when you send your BattleFlys into combat.
That’ll be a deal-breaker for some, but for me it’s often the best way of learning fast.
There are a few on-chain actions to complete first, though, to ensure the game’s contracts can access and use all the assets they need to. If you’re not familiar with token approvals and the mechanics of staking a token, your best first step is probably their Discord to get some help (a quick search will turn up all the advice you need).
There is a bit of depth to this game as you learn about all the ways you can equip your BattleFly for the arena and acquire the resources to obtain better gear, so set aside some time to read up on the basics before you commit any serious funds.

Bonus Content
Immortal Siege
Regular readers and Twitter followers will know we’re big fans of the InfiniGods studio, and that love has only intensified with the release of the litepaper for their tower defence-like game, Immortal Siege.
The game combines some deck building mechanics with a bunch of unique features that integrate the ownership and unique traits of the Elder Gods NFT collection.
At the time of writing, one savvy investor and swept the lowest tier Gods (to the tune of 20+ NFTs), which will see rental mechanics added to their usefulness, but there has been little market reaction among the higher-tier NFTs or their Community Passes, which will also gain in utility when Siege is released in a few weeks’ time.
We recommend reading the litepaper and forming your own conclusions.
Disclosure: the author is a regular player who owns several Elder Gods NFTs and two Community Passes
